- it actually relates a lotto society nowadays. - this whole concept is just really cool. i like how it tells a story. - this is definitely likea y.a. novel right now. - you're not-- there's four of them there! you're not gonna get away. - ♪ we are the new americana ♪- oh, joan of arc. - is this like a joan of arc? - that's a little bit old-fashioned:


burning someone at the stake. - ♪ ...legal marijuana ♪- oh, that's chaos. this scene scene reminds meof the hunger games. - ♪ raised on biggie and nirvana ♪ - seems a little dramaticfor just being on legal marijuana. - look, they're all escaping.they're gonna go change the world. - i don't really know a lot of her songs. i've heard some stuff on the radioand just from, like, twitter. - i don't know a huge amount about her.


but i did sit down one night and just listened to her entire album,and it was a great night. - i really like halsey and her music, so that was really awesome to see. - (finebros) so had you heardof halsey before today? - i know who halsey is. but i have not heard manyof her songs besides "new americana." - for sure.- oh yeah, definitely. - yes!- i have.


- yeah, a lot. she'sall over the internet. - she's huge on social media.everybody loves her. - (finebros) the first video we showed you was for her most popularvideo called "colors." it has over 30 million viewsthree months after its release. - oh wow. - wowza. that's a lot of human eyes. - (finebros) what didyou think of the video? - i liked it.


- the song was okay. but the storybehind it didn't make sense. why is she stalking people? - i mean, i thought it was oneof those basic love story things. like, "oh, teenage girl, teenage boy." then there's a [bleep] twist, and she's taking picturesof the older dude. - it gets to the end of the song, where it's come from blue to gray.and then you realize, "wait a second. is she talkingabout someone older?"


- (finebros) the secondvideo we showed you was for the song "new americana,"which is her only single to hit the billboard hot 100 chart so far. what about that video? what did you think? - the video, again, i assumedthere was some kind of resistance. - i just like that she's unafraidto do things in her music video that are gonna make people-- i mean, that's gonna make people talk. - the music video got deeper


and showed actually somecurrent things and issues going on. - kind of reminded meof an underground society, 'cause they were alldoing their own thing, and then they got in trouble for that. - that. that right there. - lots of people wanted you to be normal and not be an outlier in society, whereas loads of peopledon't want to follow the norm, and they want to do their own thing.


- there's a lyric in her songthat's "raised on biggie and..." there's, like, a line.- "and nirvana." - "and nirvana." that shows that you--- two completely different things. you can like biggie. you can like nirvana. like, you know how people are like, "oh, i'm the punk. oh,i'm the rapper." like, ya-ya-ya-ya. no, you can be all of that,and she is all of that. and i think that's pretty inspiring.


- (finebros) what do you thinkof the music from these videos? - not my cuppa tea. i don't care for her sound. - the lyrics are kinda likevery different from the tone. but i like how they pair. - i love her voice. it's just really soothingand nice to listen to. - i really enjoy it. i haven't quite heardanything like it before.


- i really like her voice. i like singers who havekind of quirky, unexpected voices. - she definitely represents this new, like, this young generation. her music's kind of like a mix of all of the feelings that society has. - she's such a talented artist,and everything she makes is so unique and original and fantastic.and i love her music. - (finebros) halsey seemsto be particular popular


with young people, specifically girls. why do you think sheresonates with your age group? - well, because she is a girl. and i think she sings fromexperience of what her life has been. - everyone loves beyoncã©,'cause she's so empowering. but also, she is in her 30s,so it's harder to relate to her than it is for halsey, as she's younger. - she carries a sort of rebellion on her. and every girl wants to have


that little bit of rebellioustype of energy about them. - he just being a womanwho's not afraid to say what every other girl is thinking. - every girl needs to findthat woman to look up to so that they could alsolearn how to love themselves and be empowered and thentake on whatever they want. she's come out and beenthis really huge feminist figure. and a lot of peoplereally appreciate that. and they like her music,which helps it even more.


- (finebros) as a guy,do you like her too? or do you think it isa little bit more for girls? - i mean, i personallyam not her biggest fan. but i mean, i can see the appeal. - it definitely makes more sense that the girl demographic likes her more. she's talking about more female things, like, "oh, i like this boy." - i 100% love her,


and i think she's a fantasticrole model for everybody. that's not just a goodrole model for women. that's a good role modelfor guys, to know that, yeah, there can be the strong alpha male, but there can also bethe strong alpha woman. and we should treat everybody the same. - (finebros) so halsey's beenvery engaged in social media for a long time, and she'sconstantly talking with her fans on social media.


does this kind of engagementadd to liking a celebrity more and help with their career?- definitely. you want someone who cares about the fans. - it's really cool if you couldinteract with people and get to know a little bit more about the person who you're idolizing. - you're not really a celebritywithout your fans. and so being able to talkto your fans and stuff like that is really important.


- what a lot of peoplereally want is being genuine. being open like thatis part of being genuine. - it makes you think that, oh, they're not just some stuck-up person because they have a lot of followers. they got to be mean and rude to everyone. - how connected she is with the fans or just connected with publicand how open she is just overall, i think it'll help her.


- it shouldn't be weird for somebodyto care about the people that actually care about them. - you can be a fan of somebody's music. and then they grow and change, and you no longer liketheir music, so you leave. but if you're a fan of the person,you're gonna support them. - thanks for watchinganother episode of teens react. - i'm leah.- i'm diamond. and we play two of the contestants on...- sing it!
