hey! hello! i'm relaxing out here in the sun. it's 12:30 pm on 7th of january 2014 and it feels like 20 degree celcius. know what i mean? i'm about to go to the shop and build a birdhouse. somehow i'd rather like to chill a bit more... but... birdhouse. birdhoooouuuse!!! let's go!
and now i could say: "welcome to stefans holzwerkstatt!" first thing to do is cuting the base plate. it will be square, so i set my fence to the width of the board. base plate is done! square! next is to cut the side pieces. they will look like that. watchaaaaaaa!!! here comes a safety tip from the safety advisor!
if this ever happen to you... never! neeeeeever ever reach into a running blade with your bare fingers!!!!! switch off your saw wait till your saw stops then pull it out and you and your fingers will be safe! this time everybody can afford.
next thing is to mark the roof first: mark the center for the top. here it is 14.25 centimeters the rooftop will be at a 90 degree angle,so we mark on both sides the same distance. then we connect the three marks and cut! fascinating! :) there you have it. the two parts of the roof! i got a little offcut piece that i'm gonna use for the fences. these two parts. now i put both sidewalls on the same side of the base plate
put the offcut piece there and fix it with my hand and since we need two fences, this piece is going to be cut into two pieces... but what you see here isn't quiet corect. something is missing here... who's got an idea? the riving knife! exactly!!! the installed riving knife should look like this. for getting a nice surface on the birdhouse we should sand the pieces. therefore we use a workbench that is cleaned up.
thus not like mine here but rather like... this!!! :-) yeah. if everything could be as simple as that! i'm asking me where all the stuff has gone?!? eeeer... what the... never mind... i've decided to not cut any windows in the sides. that's because if there will be winter sometime (what it don't look like at the moment)
this is our actual winter over in germany... but if the winter should come and there will be this big windows we'll get a problem with snow, blown into the birdhouse by the wind. so i let the sides closed and the itty bitty birdies will be safe from freezing. besides that i'm kinda lazy guy... hello stefan! -heeey! hello stefan! -nice, you're building a birdhouse! that's what i'm supposed to do! -maybe you should sand the edges, they look kinda sharp...
