the 3rd march 1972 takes off from cape canaveral, florida, a rocket atlas-slv3c centaur-d with inside it a probe. the probe that'll be forever the loneliest one of humanity. pioneer 10. a toy of the cutting-edge of technology. supposed to be a mission of 30 years, 10 months and 22 days, but that'll never stop, and will continue for eternity. in less than a year, the probe reached out unscatered from the astroid belt between march and jupiter. first one going that far. in 1973, she's once again the first one to fly over the gaseous giant which will give us it clichã©s we've never seen that before. finally, 10 years later, en 1983, she finally reach the orbit of neptune which will take her for his final journey.
it'll take more than 2 millions years to get to the star of aldebaran, which is approximately 65 light-years from our sun. we don't have any contact from pioneer 10 since the 23th january 2003. but the probe has a little sister. pioneer 11, taken off the 6 april 1973. she has followed the path of her elder and has given us lot of information about the big red stain of jupiter. but she had change it final direction to fly off for the first time saturn in 1979. literally between her rings and her atmosphere. she'll finally begin her last trip. find her sister, and vanish into the intersideral space. pioneer 11 didn't answer since the 30th november 1995.
the two pioneer probes weights from themselves 259kgs. from which 120 grams have been dedicated to a particular object. approximately one year ago, one kickstarter, i saw a project that has fancy me to participate. and that is what we'll present today. i rarely do unboxings on my channel, don't expect to see much but for this, it is really worth. if i rennamed the channel's description to "i talk about things that i fancy", that's exactly to allow me to upload that kind of videos. so, i recieved this sometime before and i won't lie to you, i've already opened it. the space is something i've started to fascinate some years ago. and get for the first time an item like ths one, that is really crazy.
every time it's the same, it's wonderful. the attention of the detail that made dwayne ah yes, by the way, because i have to tell you about it. dwayne king is a passionated designer that lives in portland, oregon. i also adive you to go see that's guy's projects, there are very cool things. he starts his project on the 17th may of 2017 and the craze doesn't wait to arrive. in only two days, the project bacome a crush of the plateform and the 70000$ objectif is reached. what project ? recreate for the first time since 45 yeras the potentials last traces of the human specie actually travelling in space. the pioneer plaques designed by carl sagan is today way far from our earth.
history and design, i could only participate. and today here i am doing the most passionated and the most clumsy unboxing that has ever been on youtube. anyway. the care is just crazy. "critical space item, handle with extreme care." apart from the 1900 persons that has supported the project on kickstarter, 1927 contributors for a total of 286 442$. the project's budget blew off. so, apart from the persons, i think no one else on earth has a copy of these plaques.
a little bit of asmr. no more joking, it really is beautiful. i'll explain you what each of these elements we see here relate to. but that is only the packaging and that is already beautiful, i'm so hyped even if it's only the packaging. that is not even the first time i'm opening it ! black, entirely mat, so beautiful with what we already see inside. and there, we have in a kind of borwn paper, a kind of baking paper, the plans of the shuttles pioneer 10 and pioneer 11. we'll unfold this. anyway, we don't care we're not here for paper.
and there is what we really wanted to see underneath. i don't really know what to say, this is so good. [listen, i've sent a tweet to daviflafarge for "what do we have to say when we're unbowing ?] while unbowing yeah great, you really did well. and this is really beautiful, and what do we have on the edge ? "pioneer 11" and "pioneer 10". ok so we have the dates of departure. so i can tell without even looking on the internet, even if i intended this, the departure date of pioneer 10 was the 3rd march 1972, and at the time dwayne was doing this project she was exactly at : 17 876 487 867 kms from earth, that's crazy. today these aren't the furthest object in the cosmos, in space from earth.
they got passed by theirs bigger sisters, "voyager 1" and "voyager 2" but there's also something crazy that has voyager 1 and voyager 2, but if you really want me to talk avout it, i've also have an unboxing that i can do about it. so tell me in the comments if you're looking forward to such things. anyway ! and pioneer 11 which has been sent the 6th april 1973. not meaningless ! and which is 14 339 873 575 kms. so we have the plaque. yees, but that is...
it's so beautiful i mean there's no shilly-shally, you have a good taste or you don't you know ! it is, really, beautiful. that's obviously real metal. with behind it the small message "pioneer, a message from earth." even if ihave a good english accent, but that is the hardest sentence to say in english ever made ! "1972 - 2017" so, what do we have here ? that is really really beautiful, we must recognize that thi's is a 1 to 1 replica, this is really that that were on the probes.
so here, we have an hydrogen atom. here is the path that the probe took, from the beginning we can see here our small earth. with mercury, venus, the earth, march, jupiter, saturn, erm.. wait let me see which one is it after saturne, uranus ? we don't know the last three planets, their sequence so kudos simon. so here it is, uranus, neptune and pluto. but i don't really what those small rail represent. shame on me ! but this, i think isn't really complicated, youtube please do not demonetize me ! the kind of structure you can see here is the scake if the probe compared to humans.
and here is the position of the sun with, wait so i don't say bullsh*t. "realtive position of the sun to the center of ther galaxy and 14 pulsars." so, after furthers searches, a pulsar is no more no less a giant star which has fallen off and turn on itself thirty times per second and emitting an intense magnetic field. roughly speaking, these are markers way noticeable and convenient to localise our sun by comparison. that's wonderful, even for humans there are things that aren't easy to understand, thus, there are people that are making fun off that plaque, which i can really understand. in particular alexandre astier in "l'ã‰xoconference", if you haven't seen it, go for it. what says astier is that sending this hoping it to be found is madness. but besides this, if a living form find it, for it to be capable of decypher it is unimaginable.
[alexandre astier : a sketch, etched on a golden plaque, and screwed to it structure. admitting that our space's neighbours has eyes, the sense of sight. and above all the capacity to consider the concept of graphic representation, there is a long way to go. this plaque has a remarkable particularity, besides being perfectly unintellgible for any extraterrestrial. she is also, totally gibberish even for the civilization that sent it." the plaques have been desgined by frank drake and carl sagan. the drawings from his wide linda salzman, intended like a bottle in the sea in the dark ocean that is space. an hydrogen atom. our sun with respect to 14 wasted stars.
a path, two naked humans. all of this travelling at 61 000 km/h in the empty. the plaque is a symbol of hope, of curiosity. but also of doubt. she's 23 cm for 15 cm, that's tiny, and to tell ourselves that it's the only relic of us if humanity were to disappear, that's crazy. and the last thing there is after we take off the plaque is this, an illustration made by rick, wait, i don't wanna screw his last name... rick guidice, i think. and it is beautiful. it represents jupiter with a man which is using the gravity to send back his probe, so here pioneer which is going back.
everything is beautiful. and that is why i fancy kickstarter. we always find crazy projects that we can support where whe get crazy exclusive stuff. there is no more exclusive than this. if you have time to waste from time to time and you don't know whaat to do, go on kickstarter, really. and look at all of the projects that are being made. there are really fascinating stuff on culture, desing, history, really have a look and pick things. there is a high chance for you not to be disappointed because there are really really really cool things. whether they're find or not.
and the two other golden vinyls might represent someday the last fragment of what we were after we've all reduced everything to ashes. the humanity is a plague aswell as a permanent source of creativity and of wonderment. think of it. they're up there for all of us. thanks. i think that it is noticeable that i'm not familiar at all with unboxings. but the contrast between my kid's enthusiasm and the beauty of this story. nontheless i hope i've interessed you some minutes at this outstanding odyssey.
