sawasdee krub, welcom to thaidphoto review. today we’ll talk about this fuji x-e1. early of this year (2012), fuji had launched a premium camera come with many of their own technologies. especially x trans cmos sensor which give a very sharp and clear picture. fuji also put many high end features like a hybrid viewfinder and magnesium body. all this features made fuji x-pro1 be a premium class camera and also a premium price. what a interesting is, fuji use the x-pro1 technologies like the sensor and processor create another model of camera.
smaller body, more attractive price but still keep the same quality of picture. that what we going to review today fuji x-e1. this section we going to talk about x-e1 specification. but before that, there's something i want to talk about first. because the most distinctive of x-e1 is an outstanding quality of photo. compare to other cameras on the same range that i have been tested. i can tell you now that the result from fuji x-e1 is the best among of them. and behind of this sharp and clear photo came from fuji own designed sensor
call x-trans cmos sensor so i want to talk about x-trans cmos sensor before talking about camera specification. let me magnify a digital camera sensor to level of a pixel. in each pixel there’re color filter as you see, we call it color filter array. usually it group as 2 by 2 pixels per group. the problem of traditional color filter array is moire effect when shooting regular patterns
camera manufacturers solve the problem by put a low pass filter aka anti-alias filter in front of a sensor the problem of moire was reduced but also the sharpness. so fuji redesigned the color filter array by changing color pattern and size of group to 6 by 6 pixels. this new color filter array can reduced moire effect without the need of anti-alias filter that make this sensor able to produce a very sharp and clear picture. by without anti-alias filter fuji can put shutter mechanism closer to a sensor.
the distance between last piece of a lens also closer to the sensor and able to make it larger. closer last piece of lens produced sharper pictureand larger piece of lens make a better sharpness of picture at the edge of sensor so this is the technology behind of a photo quality from fuji x-e1. ok, let take a look at camera specification. fuji x-e1 use aps-c sized, x-trans cmos sensor, 16 megapixel supported iso from 200 to 6400 in normal mode and 100 to 25600 in expansion mode. however, i suggest you to use normal mode for better photo quality. x-e1 come with electronic view finder (evf)
the resolution of oled display in evf is 2.36 megapixel first time i saw the x-e1 viewfinder, i’m think of iphone retina display, no more pixel. fuji x-e1 use exr processor pro same as x-pro 1 which powerful more than regular exr processor self sensor cleaning with ultra sonic vibration. fuji x-e1 also able to shoot video both auto and semi auto. when you shoot video in semi-auto mode. x-e1 allow you to control an aperture (depth of field). compared to fuji x-pro 1, x-e1 has builtin pop-up flash x-e1 viewfinder has a diopter adjustment.
lcd display behind the camera a little bit smaller than x-pro 1 because of a smaller body. from 3†1 megapixel in x-pro 1 to 2.8†400k pixel in x-e1 view angle and quality of display color is fine. viewfinder in x-pro 1 is hybrid viewfinder but x-e1 is not but other cameras on a same range of fuji x-e1 neither have hybrid viewfinder. so i didn’t count this as a cons of x-e1. fuji x-e1 is interchangeable-lens camera with their own x-mount you can use any x-mount lenses and also this new release 18-55 which we’ll talk about it later on this video.
also able to use x-mount to m-mount adapter to use high quality lens like leica m with x-e1 when we use m adapter, there's extra options in menu for setting lens parameter like lens distortion correction, lens information to put into exif, etc. now, let talk about photo quality. as i mentioned many times, the most distinctive of x-e1 is an outstanding photo quality. so i’ll mentioned again that fuji x-e1 give the best result compared to other camera in the same range auto white balance system is excellent, taking photo at high iso also very impressive. compared to other camera you might use iso 400 or 800 just fine but hesitate to use iso 1600 or more for fuji x-e1 iso 1600 still just fine and comfortable to use, you still get good quality of photo.
if you follow the link to forum thread of this review you’ll found the 100% original photos took by fuji x-e1 from iso 200 to 6400 even the photo took at iso 6400, the quality is not just acceptable but good. it’s comfortable to use iso 3200 or even 6400 on fuji x-e1 so this why i said the fuji x-e1 most distinctive are photo quality and auto white balance system. to be continue on part 2
