sue bryce creates her own natural light with the profoto b1 i am sue bryce and i've been a portrait photographer for 27 years. today i want to show you how i do this portrait shoot with a double profoto strobe set up with b1's. my whole business is built around shooting portraits inside but around a window and around window light. it's about showing my client that she can look and feel
like a vanity fair supermodel for one day. and that i can create these gorgeous stylized portraits that just make my clients go crazy for them. a couple of years ago i was looking at this beautiful big window which i was diffusing with a scrim. i was thinking this is the light that i need to replicate: this big soft light source. for years i started to develop and
reinvent the whole definition of glamour photography. but the modern version of it. the natural light definitely played a huge part in that. fast forward 20 years and i built my career and my business on natural light. i never bought lights back into the studio. i then went to a canon show where i saw lindsay adler photographing on profoto lights.
i tried them and then i bought the b1's. i started seeing studio lights the way i see, use and master natural light: to bounce it, zigzag it, reflect it the same way i do with natural light. they are extraordinary because they are incredible modifiers. basically they have this ability to dial down to nice low soft light. with big modifiers i can create the exact same
day light that i've been working with for the last 27 years. what makes these lights so incredible is i can shoot pretty much anytime of the day and i can control the light. that's how i felt when i got these lights and experimented with them and then started to master the light that i was creating with them. i felt really accomplished.
i felt like i had opened my mind, discovered something incredibly new for myself and for my own work. when you've been a photographer for so long, learning something new is one of the coolest experiences. it's like falling in love with photography all over again. i hope you do the same. i hope you enjoy this incredible set up
