hello and welcome, today we'll glaze a scratching post. so, for glaze i've taken bondex universal wood glaze and a three-quarter-liter costs about six euros and five euros for shipping, the color of choice being pine. furthermore, you'll need at least a medium-sized brush and optionally a small-sized brush to work on the details. for the foundation and re-painting of three platforms and a bed-plate i used up a little more than half of that three-quarter-liter bucket. let's go!
before we start, you should prepare the work space with either a newspaper, or better: a tarpauline (tarp). i used newspapers, but then occasionally had the problem, that the glazed wood stuck to the newspaper. hence i highly recommend using a tarp. the glaze should ideally be carried out directly on the balcony, because the ventilation is much better there than inside. the bondex glaze is water-based and also suited for children's toys, which is really important, because it may very well be, that the cats try
licking the wood. i quickly painted in the direction of the wood grain and let each piece dry for about an hour. afterwards i glazed the other side. because if you glazed both sides at the same time, you'll have a problem with putting them to dry in a way, that the glaze does not stick to the newspaper or tarp. after about 4 hours, you can (and should) paint over the dried parts once more. however we left the parts out to dry for the night and painted them over the next day.
